Our Story

Operating since 2006, Squamish Helping Hands got its start providing shelter and food for community members out of the old fire hall. Over the last two decades, the society has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of a fast-growing population struggling with the rising cost of living, lack of social housing, and a toxic drug crisis.

Today, we extend a range of compassionate and trauma informed programs and services within Under One Roof, the four-story service center in downtown Squamish that provides the only shelter beds in the Sea to Sky corridor from Lillooet to North Vancouver.

We offer the only complete social housing system of its kind in British Columbia through our integrated emergency shelter and transitional housing, food security programs, outreach work, drug poisoning responses, harm reduction and wellbeing services.

We envision a safe and vibrant community which assumes respect and dignity for every person that resides in Squamish.

Outreach to Support the Community’s needs

“We are looking for opportunities to improve efficiencies and coordination across all community food programs and streamline daily operations. This consolidation will help to minimize impacts from funding loss, curb staff burnout, and fill operational gaps, while increasing the efficacy of our food security programs.”
