Community Advisory Committee

Interested in volunteering for the Under One Roof Advisory Committee?

With Under One Roof about to break ground Squamish Helping Hands wishes to establish its Community Advisory Committee.

The idea behind Under One Roof is to help people reach their goals for health, connection, self-worth, and independence through a participant centered, collaborative approach. To achieve this, we will invite community partners such as the Squamish Food Bank, Cutting Barriers, Vancouver Coastal Health and more to share the space and the vision: A community where all members have food, shelter, a sense of belonging and purpose – inviting increased resilience and independence. We also envision Under One Roof as a community gathering place, connecting and integrating, offering both prescribed and ad hoc opportunities, breaking down the “Us & Them” barrier.

Purpose

The advisory committee will work to build understanding and empathy around the issues of homelessness, and create opportunities for feedback so that all voices – participants, volunteers, community partners, local neighbours and businesses – are respected and heard. The committee will become a conduit for creating a neighbourhood where everyone can thrive together, tolerant and diverse, and will help to ensure the project’s success – that Under One Roof becomes a welcoming, vibrant community hub.

The committee is a group of collaborative leaders, community members, who are passionate about Squamish and believe in building a community defined by its inclusivity, kindness, and stewardship. They are a group who understand the importance of finding creative solutions to community challenges.
